Johann Jacobs
UIIVIT learning game

Commissioned by the Johann Jacobs Museum, we developed "uiivit" - a digital learning game on the global history of interconnection, designed for students in a classroom context. The starting point is three physical objects from the museum's collection: a scold’s bridle, an opium pipe, and a porcelain figurine. In the game's virtual world, they become nodes in a web of complex historical relationships.

Story and gameplay

A short animated film opens the game: in the museum's basement, players encounter the three archived - and now sentient - objects, who long to return to the spotlight of an exhibition. Together, they set off on a journey into the past to gather knowledge for an upcoming show.

Each object leads through several chapters, with eight to ten challenges per chapter - dialogues, hotspots, multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, audio sequences, and short jump-and-run elements. A digital researcher's journal accompanies players throughout, capturing key insights and serving as a topic overview.

Name and logo

The name "uiivit" is derived from the English weave it. The logo picks up the core theme of the game - the interweaving of global history - and works as a recognizable element across both the printed classroom materials and the digital game.

Launch and supporting materials

Alongside the game, we developed teaching materials for in-class use, as well as a trailer, social media presence, and print products for the launch campaign.

Awards

uiivit won the 2021 DigAMus Award in the Apps & Games category - an annual prize for the best digital projects by museums in the German-speaking region.

The same year, the game received a Silver Award at the Horizon Interactive Awards in the Education and Mobile Apps categories.

In 2023, it was honored with the Worlddidac Award.
