Things are not as bad as they seem – nor as difficult. This was the message of famous global health specialist and data expert Hans Rosling that inspired the Swiss Confederation’s "Project Rosling: Unlocking the Power of Data Initiative".
The Swiss Federal Statistical Office approached us to introduce Project Rosling to a wider audience by means of an animated video. The initiative aims to bring together the data and statistics community with the data users, to support sustainable policymaking and to promote a worldview based on facts instead of fake news.
We delved deep into the subject matter to find a balance between transporting very dense information and keeping a light touch in the narration. We combined playful photographic collages with data-visualization-inspired graphics, using the medium of animation to full advantage.
